We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer & Team Lead to join the team in Delft .
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Space & Science business unit in Delft, the Netherlands, to work on software development for Data Processing and Analysis systems and services.
One of our teams within the Space & Science business unit focuses on delivering solutions that facilitate automated processing of Earth Observation (EO) data, providing both automated and interactive analysis tools. For example, we offer an environment for scientific end-users to develop and test data processors, and deliver quality control systems for missions such as Biomass , Sentinel-1 , and Sentinel-5P . Our tools are also used for public services that enable scientists to retrieve and analyze EO data, especially related to atmospheric composition, e.g., NO2 over Europe.
We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with state-of-the-art (open-source) technologies and possess in-depth knowledge of software engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software within various projects and for the common toolstack.
- Collaborate with the software architect as the lead engineer responsible for one or more projects in Earth Observation.
- Design new solutions and identify opportunities to reuse existing ones.
- Take ownership of the software development lifecycle, including estimation, scope management, and release cycles.
- Lead team members within projects.
- Provide support to (scientific) end-users.
Requirements
- Completed MSc in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field, or a proven track record in software engineering with full lifecycle experience.
- At least 7 years of coding experience in at least two languages (preferably high-level and low-level).
- Experience with C, C++, and Python development.
- Proficiency in working with Python on large codebases, including typing, dataclasses, static code checks, and language bridging.
- Ability to design architectural solutions and choose appropriate paradigms like OO.
- Experience working with Linux, including system administration.
- Effective team collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with formal documentation (requirements, design, interfaces).
- Knowledge of version control (git), CI/CD tools (Jenkins/Gitlab), project management (Redmine), virtualization (VMs), and containerization (Docker).
- Nice-to-haves: experience with Nix/NixOS, Django, Jupyterlab, Openstack, front-end development, or scientific visualization.
- Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are a plus.
- Authorized to work in the Netherlands.
