Senior Space System Engineer – S[&]T – Delft

Jobid=631821600499499523 (0.0198)

We are currently looking for a Senior Space System Engineer to join our team in Delft.

As Earth observation missions continue to demand higher-resolution sensors and increasingly intelligent payloads, the need for a new generation of onboard processing capabilities is growing rapidly. Processing data directly in space enables faster decision-making, reduces bandwidth requirements, and unlocks entirely new mission concepts. At S&T, we are developing the next generation of onboard processing platforms that combine high-performance electronics, advanced software, and AI to bring these enhanced capabilities into orbit as quickly as possible.

As a Senior Space System Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of our first-generation onboard computing platform. You will be responsible for definition and maintenance of the system engineering processes throughout the complete life cycle of the platform. Your responsibilities include managing requirements and trade-offs, conducting technical risk assessments, developing and executing methods for system integration, test, verification and validation and developing and maintaining system engineering documentation.

You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including System Architects, FPGA Engineers, Embedded Systems Engineers, Electronics Engineers and Mechanical Engineers, to develop high-performance, reliable products for demanding environments.

This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple engineering disciplines, combine technologies into innovative solutions, and make a direct impact on the development of advanced products within a dynamic, high-tech organization.

Main responsibilities

  • Define and manage requirements based on internal and external stakeholder input.
  • Perform trade-off analyses on system level, closely working together with the System Architect(s).
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and define and support (technical) risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support system integration, test, verification, validation and qualification processes by planning and providing the required documentation.
  • Develop and maintain system engineering documentation, including but not limited to system requirements documents, design documents, interface control documents (ICDs), test, verification and validation plans and reports.
  • Research existing industry standards such as ECSS and ensure compliance throughout the development.
  • Support and guide colleagues in system engineering activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field, or extensive work experience equivalent to these qualifications.
  • Extensive experience with system engineering practices, guidelines and processes.
  • Understanding of satellite operations, space (sub-)systems including electronics, onboard data processing, or related space technologies is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, FPGA and embedded system engineers, architects and customers.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. Dutch is an advantage.
  • Affinity with the Defence sector and the ability to obtain Dutch, NATO, or EU security clearances (required).
