About Provia
Provia develops software for modelling, calculating and visualising low-voltage distribution
networks. We are building an application that allows electrical networks to be imported, analysed,
calculated and, ultimately, interactively designed and modified. Our work combines electrical
engineering, software development and modern AI tools.
The technical foundation of Provia is already in place. Over the coming period, we will significantly
expand the application with more complex network structures, calculation models, visualisation and
an interactive map-based network editor. We are therefore looking for a Software Engineer to join
our development team as a working student or intern.

What you will do
At Provia, we use tools such as ChatGPT, Codex and Claude intensively for analysis, implementation,
testing and code review. Your role is therefore not simply to write as much code as possible.
Understanding, evaluating and improving software is just as important.
• Develop and improve new product functionality.
• Review and challenge AI-generated code and proposed solutions.
• Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions.
• Assess whether implementations are logical, maintainable, secure and robust.
• Create and review automated tests.
• Investigate and resolve bugs and technical issues.
• Work on backend, frontend, API and data-model challenges.
• Collaborate closely with electrical engineering students and engineers.
• Translate technical requirements into sound software solutions.
• Help ensure that new functionality integrates cleanly with the existing application.

Depending on your experience, you will gradually receive more independence and responsibility
within the development process.

Our technical environment
The current Provia stack includes:

SQLite | Git & GitHub | pytest | ChatGPT, Codex & Claude

You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We care more about your ability to
understand software, think critically and learn new technologies quickly.

Who we are looking for
You are studying, for example:
• Computer Science / Informatics
• Software Engineering
• Artificial Intelligence
• Data Science with a strong software engineering component
• or a comparable technical degree programme

Both bachelor’s and master’s students are welcome to apply. We are particularly interested in
someone who:
• Is available for at least 2 days per week.
• Is interested in professional software development.
• Has a good foundation in Python, or can learn it quickly.
• Can read, understand and reason about existing code.
• Is willing to question and improve AI-generated solutions instead of accepting them at face value.
• Can analyse problems logically and systematically.
• Works carefully and takes responsibility for quality.
• Enjoys working on a technical product at an early and fast-moving stage.
Experience with Git, APIs, databases, frontend development or automated testing is an advantage,
but not a strict requirement. Electrical engineering knowledge is not required. Electrical domain
expertise is already present within the team.

Why this role is different from a standard software internship
At Provia, you will not be limited to small programming assignments. You will work on a product
where software and electrical engineering models directly interact. This means you will encounter
real questions involving architecture, data models, algorithms, validation, interfaces and technical
trade-offs.

We also work strongly AI-assisted. Our goal is not to have a developer manually write code that AI
can produce faster. We are looking for someone who wants to become a strong software engineer in
an environment where AI can provide a large part of the implementation capacity – while humans
remain responsible for engineering judgement and quality.

You will learn to ask questions such as:
• Is this solution technically well designed?
• Do we understand what the AI has implemented?
• Have the relevant scenarios and edge cases been tested?
• Does this fit the existing architecture?
• Can this code be maintained and extended reliably?
• Is the proposed complexity actually necessary?
This gives you hands-on experience with a way of developing software that is becoming increasingly
important across the industry.
