We are currently looking for a Medior Software Engineer to join the team in Delft!

We are currently looking for a Software Engineer for our Space & Science business unit in Delft, the Netherlands, to work on the software development for our Data Processing and Analysis systems and services.

One of our teams within the Space & Science business unit is working on delivering solutions that facilitate automated processing of Earth Observation (EO) data and provide both automated and interactive analysis of such data.

For example, we provide an interactive environment for scientific end-users to develop and test their own data processors. Similarly, we deliver quality control systems for various missions such as Biomass, Sentinel-1, and Sentinel-5P, that monitor satellite instrument performance and perform validation (for example: https://mpc-vdaf-server.tropomi.eu/). Our toolchains are also used for public services that allow scientists to easily retrieve and analyze EO data, especially data concerned with the atmospheric composition (for example: NO2 over Europe (https://maps.s5p-pal.com/).

Currently, we are looking for people who enjoy working on state-of-the-art (open-source) technologies and have in-depth knowledge of the software engineering domain.

Responsibilities:

  • Software development within various projects and for the common toolstack.
  • Provide end-user support on data-processing and provided environments.
  • Be able to participate in the full software development process.
  • Communicate with the customer for project related issues.

Requirements:

  • You have completed an education (MSc or Bsc) in Computer Science, or alternatively you have a well-established track record in software development.
  • At least 3 to 6 years of experience with coding in Python software development or alternative high-level languages such as C++, Java or C#, etc.
  • Experience working with Linux.
  • You function well in a team (5-7 people) and can communicate effectively and clearly (both verbally and in writing) with customers and your team members.
  • Comfortable with writing documentation.
  • Experience with version management systems/source control (git) and continuous integration (Jenkins/Gitlab)

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with Nix/NixOS or declarative programming.
  • Knowledge of Django, Jupyterlab, Openstack.
  • Experience with front-end development and/or scientific visualisation.
  • Experience with languages other than Python.
  • Experience with virtualization (VMs) or containerization (Docker).
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English, and Dutch is a nice-to-have.
  • You are authorised to work in the Netherlands.

In addition, as a Software Engineer with a passion for cutting-edge software development, you are someone who:

  • Enjoys working in a team within a dynamic, high-tech organization.
  • Enjoys working with cloud infrastructure for scientific computing, for example, within the field of Earth Observation data processing.
  • Also enjoys social interactions with your colleagues.
