We are currently looking for a Data Scientist to join our team in Delft .
You will be working within the Defence & Security business unit, where we are working on innovative solutions that leverage space technologies. You will be active in the domain of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). In the ISR domain we are developing advanced satellite data processing solutions, both on-board satellites and on ground. These solutions include the employment of machine learning models to obtain insights from a variety of satellite-based sensors, such as hyperspectral and SAR. Common application areas include Defence, Space and Critical Infrastructure. This role involves studying and analyzing different sensor types and their data, designing and applying data pre processing and filtering techniques and designing and implementing machine learning models to obtain insights. Additionally, this position includes evaluation and analysis of results to assess performance of these models. This position provides the opportunity to design innovative solutions and contribute to product and service development in a dynamic, high-tech organization.
Main responsibilities
- Study, analyze and evaluate different types of satellite data , including but not limited to hyperspectral and SAR .
- Define and implement data pre-processing and filtering techniques to enhance data applicability.
- Implement data pipelines and labeling techniques
- Design and implement efficient machine learning models and other AI techniques to convert data into valuable insights.
- Support and guide colleagues in data science related developments.
- Lead data science tasks in projects.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computational Science or a related technical field, or extensive work experience equivalent to these qualifications.
- Solid understanding of satellite data , including but not limited to hyperspectral and SAR .
- Programming experience in Python .
- Experience with machine learning platforms (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and data science tools (scikit-learn, numpy)
- Strong communication skills in English , both verbally and in writing. Dutch is an advantage.

Our story
At S(&T) we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.
Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.
We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
