About this position

Driven by the global aspiration to achieve a CO2-neutral society, the conversion of CO2 to higher energy carriers has recently grown into a significant research field. To achieve a sustainable process, the sunlight driven nanoparticle enabled photocatalysis reaction has shown promising results. Nanoparticle (NP) catalyst is an important ingredient: it is an efficient light absorber and varying its size and load directly affects the chemical reaction rate.

What will be your role?

In this project, we will orderly model the optical and the induced heat transfer phenomena. Nanoparticle (NP) catalyst material convert light energy to thermal energy and efficiently improve the reaction rate. The photothermal effect of large quantity of NPs will be studied, especially their impact on reactor design. The results of the this project will contribute to shed light on the mechanism of the photocatalytic reaction and to promote sustainable energy systems.

What we expect from you

  • Master student in physics or relevant field of engineering
  • Hands-on mentality.
  • You have affinity with (multiphysics) modelling, preferably in Comsol.
  • Critical towards data and result.
  • Team player in a multidisciplinary environment.
